Trainees learning different building trades at a Skills Centre in Birmingham are enjoying a comfortable learning environment all year round, thanks to an Econo-Air warm air unit, manufactured by Stokvis Energy Systems.
The Econo-Air DF14 VAV 650 was selected for the Erdington Skills Centre by Robinson Cartwright Design (RCD), while Cannock-based E H Humphries was the specialist M&E installer carrying out the work on the multi-million new-build project. The unit will not only provide heating during the winter months, but has also been specified to provide ample fresh air during hotter weather for a total heating and ventilation solution.
Commenting on the decision to use the Econo-Air DF14 VAV 650, the design co-ordinator for RCD, Will Wright, said: “We had previously been made aware of the Stokvis Energy Systems’ Econo-Air range when we were involved with the development of a warehouse where a dozen or so people would be ‘picking’ – but the situation did not justify choosing the Econo-Air over a standard warm air unit or radiant panel. However, when it came to the Erdington Skills Centre, which has a lot of trainees in close proximity, the ability to provide a fresh air supply was important.
“As it is a centre for construction industry training, it is potentially quite a dirty environment and therefore having the potential to provide positive pressure and fresh air within the space helps to create a healthier environment.
Ian Curtis is the Mechanical Contracts Manager who supervised the work at the Erdington Skills Centre for E H Humphries. He commented: “Following the specification by the design consultants, RCD, we installed a vertical indoor Stokvis Econo-Air unit on the ground floor of the workshop from where it warms both the main teaching space and an upper mezzanine level”.
“As a building services contractor working across the country covering the commercial, healthcare and other sectors; as well as education, we use a lot of equipment manufactured by Stokvis Energy Systems and always get very good technical assistance as well as reliability from the company. We are currently installing their Plate heat exchangers and Buffer vessels at a new leisure centre at Perdiswell in Worcester.”
The Econo-Air range of direct or indirect gas fired, modulating warm air heaters are fully CE marked and available in outputs up to 1,056 kW, making it ideal for industrial as well as other applications such as school sports halls, swimming pools and warehouses, etc. The various models are offered with a wide range of accessories and can be connected to building management systems for enhanced controllability and economy.
